Any thoughts?
When you're deciding whether to raise, call, or fold a poker hand, one of the evaluating factors has to be what's known as 'pot odds.' The basic premise involved is that the more money in the pot relative to your bet, the greater the risk you should be willing to take. For example, if the pot has $4 in it and you are considering a $1 bet, the odds of you winning must be better than 4:1 for you to actually make the bet. As long as the odds of you winning the hand are better than the ratio of your bet to the total pot, the pot odds say you should make the bet.
Understanding the pot odds is one of the most complex and important aspects of good fundamental poker playing. For more information on this subject, please refer to the excellent book THE THEORY OF POKER, by David Sklansky.

Any thoughts?
One of the most crucial decisions you'll make is whether to check (pass), raise (increase the bet), fold (quit) or call (match the bet). Here are a few pointers: 1. If you have a strong hand and feel you have the advantage, raise instead of call. 2. If you have weak cards, get out before you waste your bet. Calling will only make matters worse. 3. If your hand is good but you feel you are beaten and can't improve, fold. Calling in this situation is a bad move. 4. Raising under prime conditions is the key to taking control, rather than calling. But your raises must be appropriate for the circumstances of the game.
