PAYING THE PRICERate It [ 0.00 / 0 Votes ] Any thoughts?
Poker is the only game in the casino where you match your skill against other players instead of playing against the house. However, the house still has to make money to provide the free drinks, nice surroundings, and dealers and floorpeople. Casinos most commonly do this by one of two methods:
CHARGING A RAKE: Here the house takes a percentage of each pot. Common rakes can vary from 5 to 10 percent of the pot and are often capped at $3 to $5 per pot.
CHARGING A SEAT RENTAL: The casino actually rents your place at the table, often in half-hour increments. The cost can be anywhere from $5 to $10 per half hour.
In either case, the casino is looking to make roughly between $80 to $120 an hour per table.
