 Casino or cardroom poker is a great game because you match your skill against the other players, not the house.
Be advised that other players will be watching you when you sit down to determine if you are a good player or not. Here are two tips to keep you from looking like a novice:
Never toss your bet directly into the pot. Simply place your bet in front of you so the dealer can make sure it is the right amount. If you toss your bet in, the dealer may stop the game and count down the pot to make sure the right amount was bet.
Never reach out and haul in the pot when you win a hand. Proper procedure is for the dealer to push the pot to you.
Avoiding those faux pas may give other players the perception you have played before, hopefully keeping them at bay when you first start to play this exciting game!

Are you good at lying? Could you ever convince your teacher that your dog really did eat your homework? Is your partner truly taken in when you say, "Honey, have I ever told you how good you look in polka dots?" When you're late for work, can you calmly provide your boss with a ridiculous excuse and get away with it?
If your answer to any of these questions is "Yes!" then take a serious look at the game of poker. Poker is a game of skill, but a lot of the skill involves being able to conceal your true feelings and, at the same time, to assess the true feelings of others who are trying to do the same.
Poker is a game of psychology in action, where appearances can be deceiving and where being able to deceive can be immensely profitable. So if you're a good liar, get your ever-lengthening nose into a poker book at your earliest convenience. It could be the game you were born to play.
